About this deal

Do not spend any longer in the sun than you would without sunscreen. What are the SPF and star rating? The UV star rating is not used in all countries andin factsome countries have no such rating system for UVA protection. Some products will have PA system (often used in Japan) and some will use the term “Broadspectrum” as in the US. These are the rays that are mostly responsible for sunburn and skin reddening. They don’t penetrate as deeply as UVA rays, but they’re just as damaging. They play a large part in the development of skin cancers including melanoma.

Babies less than six months old should be kept out of direct sunlight, according to the NHS, and the skin of young children should be protected from the sun when UV levels are high. Take extra care to protect babies and children. Their skin is much more sensitive than adult skin, and damage caused by repeated exposure to sunlight could lead to skin cancer developing in later life. Pros: SPF 30, UVA and UVB protection, lightweight, non-greasy, dewy glow, hydrating, no white cast, holds your makeup in place If you're looking for a sun cream for oily skin, SuperGoop's Unseen Sunscreen will become your best friend. With SPF 30, it's an invisible, lightweight formula that won't clog the skin and will keep it protected all day long. Formulated with skincare in mind, not only does it give you full protection against UVA and UVB rays, it delivers major benefits to the skin. This cute yellow bottle might only contain 40ml of SPF, but its small size is exactly what makes it the perfect SPF to carry around. This one is also water resistant, but not sure for how long, so we reapplied it after swimming to ensure full coverage. It’s fragrance-free and offers broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays, for an affordable price. This tends to mean that two commonly used chemical UV filters linked to coral bleaching – oxybenzone and octinoxate – aren’t used. It’s also water-resistant, although it doesn’t specify for how long. Altruist is a broad-spectrum sunscreen, offering both UVA and UVB protection. We love that it’s cruelty-free, vegan and even coral-friendly. You can also use it on children over two years old. This is definitely one we'll be using again. It goes without saying that you need protection from both UVA and UVB in your sun protection, and, thankfully, almost all of today’s sun creams offer this. How do you know? Look for the words ‘broad spectrum’ on the bottle.

For any product to provide the SPF it claims, you need to apply 2mg per square cm – which means around a teaspoonful of product for your face. And, just as with sun cream, it needs to be reapplied regularly. Cathryn has hidradenitis suppurativa. She explains how she was diagnosed and what living with the condition means to her now. Paula's Choice is a brand loved for its exfoliants and serums, and this brand-new SPF is bound to be a hit amongst beauty fans and regular folk alike.

Paula's Choice Advanced Sun Protection Daily Moisturiser SPF 50

With temperatures hitting the high 20s and a heatwave due in July, chances are you'll be needing to re up on the sun cream this summer.

Both the adult and kids versions of this spray contain the humectant glycerin, meaning they all have hydrating and moisturising properties too. Report these to your doctor as soon as possible. Skin cancer is much easier to treat if it's found early. Using sunbeds It protects you against both UVA and UVB rays but has larger molecules than regular SPFs so doesn't seep through to the deeper layers of your skin. The benefit of this? You're far less likely to have a sensitised response or breakout as a result of using this sun cream on your face. Sunburn increases your risk of skin cancer. Sunburn does not just happen on holiday. You can burn in the UK, even when it's cloudy. In 2017 there were approximately 14,000 new cases of melanoma and 147,000 cases of non-melanoma skin cancers. Melanoma and certain non–melanoma skin cancer can be fatal. The cases of melanoma have dramatically increased over the years. The sun emits ultraviolet radiation in the form of UVA and UVB (also UVC which does not reach the earth surface). Years of research has confirmed that both these rays can cause melanoma and non- melanoma skin cancers. Sunscreen successfully prevents most of these rays from reaching our skin and thus reducing our risk of skin cancer. Spray sunscreen: Sprays are used mostly for their convenience however these should be sprayed onto the skin until it appears wet and then rubbed in with your hands – so actually, if used correctly, it may not be as convenient as you would imagine. They should also not be sprayed directly on the face or the head. There are some concerns with regards to children breathing in the spray particles however more research is needed into whether this is harmful or not. UVC: This has the shortest wavelength and is the most damaging type, however it is completely filtered by the atmosphere and therefore does not reach the earth surface. About 67% of British people do not use enough sunscreen. Overall for adults an amount that is equivalent to a full shot glass is adequate. THERE'S nothing worse than discovering sore sunburns after a day in the sun, but the best sun creams will keep you protected from UV rays, while also delivering benefits to the skin.

We tested both of these out on a weekend seaside break during the UK heatwave and can confirm that, even though it feels as if you're wearing nothing on your skin, this SPF spray really will protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays and pollution damage for hours on end. Just make sure you're applying liberally and reapplying every couple of hours (or more frequently if you're swimming or sweating heavily).Painkillers, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, will ease the pain by helping to reduce inflammation caused by sunburn.
