Romero, Ariana (September 28, 2022). "Noah Centineo Is All Suited Up in New 'The Recruit' Photos". Netflix . Retrieved October 3, 2022. Drugs/Alcohol/Smoking: Mum and Ron frequently get drunk together. The combination of alcohol and Mum’s painkillers for a leg ulcer are thought to have killed her. Older kids give James alcohol at Amy’s birthday party because it’s always a laugh to get younger kids drunk. James vomits a lot that night and has a hangover the next day. Leaders get drunk on CHERUB’s vacation trip. James’ adult counselor offers him a cigarette. He declines then and at the children’s home when other kids offer him cigarettes. Kids have cigarettes at Amy’s party. James tries a cigarette when Joanna offers him one. The subject is the "white power movement" during this time period. The descriptions of what happened made me uncomfortable, and at times, I had to put the book away for a little while. It truly hurt my soul. Something new i learn't from the book is that adults shouldn't doubt kids. Sure, we may not be as smart as you guys, or have the same rights as you do. But we do have feelings, AND BRAINS!!! And some of our rights are actually ok. For example, it may be funny or cute if a three year old goes running down the street naked. AND we don't get in trouble! How would you think the consequences would look like if - i dunno - a 22 yr old did that!?!? So then this girl-injuring twelve year old "couldn't face up to what he'd done. No one would believe it was an accident."

Most of the time when a criminal suspects someone is a spy it is usually an adult. So what if the spies weren’t adults, instead they were teens. These teens would set up secret surveillance cameras and spy equipment around someone’s house. For James Choke this is regular life. James works for the secret agency called Cherub. Following the last book in the CHERUB series, it was revealed that a trilogy would be released starting from August 2011 that will focus on a new set of CHERUB agents centred upon Ryan Sharma and also involve an sixteen year old Lauren Adams. The first book will be called People's Republic. Extraordinary! I can think of no other thriller that portrays its vital themes—all relevant to our times—in such a riveting and up close and personal way.”—Jeffery Deaver, author of The Bone CollectorIt has nothing to do with the writing, which in this case is excellent, but the topic (white supremacy).

Mac shows James around and explains the rigorous training involved in joining this elite force. Then James is tested. Eventually Mac invites him to join CHERUB. James likes the facility and feels he has nothing to lose. Anyway, the writing style was also bad. There were several errors and typos in the text. Some of the sentences required a second read, which greatly disrupted the ease of reading. a b c d Petski, Denise (November 12, 2021). White supremacists and the vulnerable youth it attracts are portrayed in this book. This is a gritty, gruesome, and intense book that looks at hate, brutality and how some are courted and recruited into a world of hate. The Recruit is a 2004 young adult novel by British novelist Robert Muchamore. It is the first book of twelve in the CHERUB series. The novel follows unfortunate teenager James Choke, later named James Adams. James, reeling from the death of his mother, is sent to live in a children’s home, only to be recruited by a spy organization. The Recruit has been translated into twelve languages, and there is also a graphic novel adaptation of the book by Ian Edginton. The story is descriptive. At times, it was REALLY descriptive. Like I said, it was well-written, but the descriptive events were hard to take. CHERUB agents are aged between 10 and 17. They live in the real world, slipping under adult radar and getting information that sends criminals and terrorists to jail.” Now this is quite a long quote but it's extremely true no one suspects children and teenagers as undercover agents, do they? Set in California in the late 1980s, the story is about 'an interstate conspiracy of hate to terrorize and kill minorities.' The story shows that the roots of such racism began shortly after the Vietnam War and found legitimacy under Donald Trump's political agenda unfortunately.Parents need to understand that simply reading a series of books isn't going to make a child violent, a sex addict or craving heroine. That is entirely down to who they choose to be around as well as their parents being good role models. I had a love/hate relationship with this book, which actually made me like it more, if that makes sense. The characters are tied together in some way, but you don't know how until about halfway through the book.
